Become a Volunteer

Volunteering with the Cannon Beach Rural Fire Protection District (CBRFPD) can be a rewarding opportunity, both for you and for the community. CBRFPD is currently seeking volunteers!

Some of the base requirements for becoming a volunteer are:

          – Must be at least 18 years of age.
          – Must be a U.S. Citizen.
          – Must currently have a valid Oregon driver’s license.
          – Must live within the districts of Cannon Beach or Arch Cape.
          – Must be able to pass a background check (driving, criminal, character,
             and possibly financial/credit).
          – Must be able to pass a physical exam and a physical agility test.

While volunteering can be fun, it can also be a lot of work! In addition to responding to calls for service, we meet every Wednesday night, at 7:00 p.m., to conduct training and attend to other Fire Department business. Additionally, although we are volunteers, we are still held to the same National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards as paid firefighters. As such, new recruits will be required to attend, and pass, a Recruit Firefighting Academy. This academy is held within Clatsop County and typically consists of 5 weekends (Saturday and Sunday).

Not everything we do here at CBRFPD is fire related. In fact, a large portion of our call volume is in response to those people needing immediate medical assistance. So, for those people who don’t want to fight fires… we can still use you!

Other opportunities are available here at the CBRFPD. For example, we have a cadet program for those individuals who are interested in volunteering, but who are under 18 years of age.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer (whether for firefighting or other non-firefighting related opportunities),  or if you are unsure as to whether you could qualify to become a volunteer, we encourage you to contact us and pick up a packet containing more information. Contact information can be found under the “Contact Us” page of this blogsite.
